My sisters and I made a whole outing of going to the movies, got all the way to the AMC, bought our popcorn at the counter... and then just left. Didn't stay for a single preview. We got in the car with three buckets of popcorn between us and drove straight home like that was the plan the whole time.

Once we got there, plain buttered popcorn wasn't cutting it anymore, so we spread it out on a tray and went full zebra popcorn on it — warm caramel drizzled back and forth, then melted chocolate right over the top so it stripes, then a handful of sprinkles while it's still wet so they actually stick. It's stupid easy and it disappears fast.

I used a jarred caramel for this one, just warmed until it was pourable — let me know if y'all want my actual caramel recipe and I'll do a whole post on it. And yes, we did end the night with an actual movie, just the at-home kind, cat on the blanket and all.

The Recipe

Method

  1. Spread the popcorn out in an even, flat layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet or large tray — the flatter it is, the better everything drizzles over top.

  2. Warm the caramel sauce until it's pourable, then drizzle it back and forth over the popcorn so it covers most of the surface.

  3. Melt the chocolate chips until smooth, then drizzle it over the caramel in the same back-and-forth motion — that's your zebra stripes.

  4. While the chocolate is still wet, scatter the sprinkles over the top so they stick.

  5. Let it sit a few minutes to firm up, then break it apart into clusters and dig in.
